Grade 8; #32: Write, simplify, and evaluate algebraic expressions to generalize situations and solve problems

  1. Warmup: Which operation symbol goes with each word? Sum, Product, Quotient, Difference
  2. As a pod, set up an algebraic expression for the following problem: Jeanne has $17 in her piggy bank. How much money does she need to buy a game that costs $68? (Solution: Let x represent the amount of money Jeanne needs. Then the following equation can represent this problem: 17 + x = 68)
  3. How many words can you think of that can represent each operation symbol? (addition: sum, added, more than, total, increased, plus / subtraction: difference, less than, minus, decrease, take away / multiplication: times, product, multiplied, each / division: divided, split, quotient, separated)

POTENTIAL HOMEWORK: pg 2; #1-6 and #7-12
EVALUATION: In pods, students will work through the potential homework problems which we will review as a class
